After The Oscars

So now that the oscars are over, what did every one think of the winners?! Well I have one word for you, predictable! I had all the winners pegged down, next year I should put money down on the awards. The award I was most anxious to see given out was Actor in a Leading Role. After seeing Dallas Buyers Club I was 100 per cent convinced that Matthew McConaughey deserved the statue for his performance.

So how did Ellen DeGeneres do? The short answer, she did well. She had a solid opening monologue, funny jokes throughout the night, without going over the line, and while some bits went on a little long for my liking (the pizza bit), the group shot that Ellen posted on Twitter was one of the best parts of the night.

One of my biggest problems with this years Oscars is that it didn't have the big excitement shows in that past have. There was no big opening number and while there was signing throughout the show, it wasn't very exciting, it usually just consisted of the artist standing in one place and singing. I also found that the camera work was very sloppy and the lead ins and outs were very choppy.

What surprised me about this years Academy Awards was that I liked all the fashion! There was nothing that was particularly disastrous, nothing that made me cringe. Lots of pastels, reds, blacks, whites (mostly the men), and shiny!

Now that the 86th Academy Awards are over, they are no doubt already working on next years awards. The Academy has already announced that the 87th Academy Awards will be held February 22, 2015 at the Dolby Theatre. Only 352 days to go!

The good, the bad and the ugly!

As soon as the actresses and actors step onto the red carpet there is a chance for them to get an award. Best and worst dressed has been reported on now for years, with Joan Rivers having the harshest opinions on her E! show Fashion Police.

I have to admit, when I first, diligently, started watching the oscars, I didn't care about the red carpet. I would just tune in for the show, I thought a three hour show was long enough. But now my Oscar night starts at six when Ryan Seacrest is live from the red carpet.

While the fashion changes every year there is usually a trend between all the women's gowns. It could be a trend of sequins, of a train, or of the colour or they could be totally different, this is where they take a chance being labeled a "hit or miss". Must be easy for the men, throw on a suit and they're done.

Now, in my personal opinion there are always more "hits" then there are "misses". Yet no matter how many years pass everyone seems to agree that Julia Roberts' vintage Valentino dress she wore in 2001 was definitely a "hit". It reminded everyone of old Hollywood, bringing the black and white glamour to The Academy Awards.
Just because a dress is infamous it doesn't make it a "hit" and I think that was made clear with Bjork's swan dress designed by Marjan Pejoski also in 2001. To this day I still don't know what she was thinking!

I can't wait to see this years Oscar's fashion trends and what the big names will be wearing.
